FAQs

  • A Chinese Medicine practitioner is trained in various traditional Chinese medicine modalities. These may include:

    • Acupuncture

    • Chinese herbal medicine

    • Traditional breathing techniques

    • Moxibustion

    • Cupping therapy

    • Traditional Chinese massage techniques

    • Dietary guidance based on traditional Chinese medicine principles

    • Lifestyle recommendations

    • Qi Gong instruction

Note: Individual practitioners may have different areas of focus within their scope of practice. Treatment approaches are based on traditional Chinese medicine theory and individual assessment.

  • During your first appointment, we will conduct a comprehensive health history assessment and discuss your current health presentation.

Following this assessment, we will develop a management plan tailored to your individual needs.

Your initial consultation may include acupuncture and/or a Chinese herbal medicine consultation. Herbal medicine or supplement recommendations may be provided if considered appropriate based on your individual assessment.

  • If your private health insurance policy includes coverage for acupuncture and Chinese medicine services, you may be eligible for on-the-spot claiming through our HICAPS facility at the clinic.

To confirm your coverage details, we recommend contacting your private health insurance provider directly to verify your policy inclusions and any applicable limits or waiting periods.

  • There are various acupuncture techniques used in traditional Chinese medicine practice. Different acupuncture approaches may be applied based on individual assessment and presentation.

For example, acupuncture techniques used for musculoskeletal presentations may differ from those used for women's health consultations.

Dry needling is practiced by allied health professionals who have completed additional dry needling training as part of their existing qualifications (such as osteopaths, physiotherapists, or podiatrists). Dry needling focuses on muscle tension and neuromuscular presentations.

Traditional acupuncture is based on a 3000-year-old system that incorporates over 500 documented acupuncture points, each with specific traditional functions according to Chinese medicine theory.

Acupuncture training includes techniques for working with muscle and motor points, which in traditional Chinese medicine are referred to as 'Ashi' points or motor points.
